In 2 Indonesia schedule
The program consists of an exciting 4-week period of experiencing the Indonesian culture, lifestyle, language, people, food, attitude and habits. This is an interesting period from which you will benefit, if you choose to work as a volunteer in one of our projects for an additional 4 weeks (or more). We are located in Semarang and all our projects are located in and around Semarang, Magelang, and Yogyakarta, all of which are exotic and wonderful places to participate in our program.
Week 1: The Orientation
The Orientation is the first step for a successful stay in Indonesia! Therefore the first week is dedicated to getting to know Indonesia and meeting the other participants.
During this time you will also engage in the following activities, among others more:
Basic Indonesian lessons, social Do’s & Don’ts, team building activities, Introduction to Indonesia and its culture, local sightseeing, such as Ungaran town, traditional market, Ungaran Mountain and the ancient group temple of Gedong Songo (Nine Hindu Temples). You will also have time to meet the local people, taste the food and learn about the Indonesian traditions.
Of course, this is also the time in which you will be informed in detailed about the program and the projects.
Week 2 and 3: Experience Indonesia in a very special way!
Option A: Volunteering at a social project
Work focus:
- Teaching at Schools
- Working at local Orphanages
- Re-habilitation and follow up projects for earthquake victims
- Assisting in renovation and construction of small scale infrastructure at local communities
Option B: Indonesia Traditional Culture and Adventure
You will explore the traditional local culture as well as the beauty of the natural Indonesian landscape, while doing adventurous activities, such trekking and rafting. You will also spend time at the old royal cities of Yogyakarta, Borobudur and Prambanan. Other interesting feature of this option is that you will have the opportunity to learn
how to make “BATIK” (traditional handpainting) and also the traditional Indonesian dance.
Week 4: Beach Week at Karimunjawa island
You will experience the serenity and spectacular sights of the Karimunjawa – an island chain stretching in a northwesternly direction 83 km from Jepara. Central Java. This archipelago is a cluster of 27 island in the Java sea. The reefs are a mixture of fringing, barrier, and patch with bottom depths ranging from 15 to 40 meters. This is the perfect time for you to enjoy free time, either to relax or to practice some of your favorite water sports.
This is also the time for you to be together with the other Active In Asia participants and to make an evaluation of the previous weeks.
